Wojciech Rusin
“PIPE MUSIC -3D printed wind instruments” is an investigation into the creation of 3D printed instruments/sound objects, their sonic capabilities and their potential for multiple meanings. The instruments I have designed and made are inspired by historic wind instruments such as the aulos (an ancient Greek double reed instrument), a double recorder, a medieval shawm, and a Slovakian overtone flute. The designs are contemporary and reflect current trends in 3D modelling and critical design. Pipe Music is a collection of recordings made with these 3D printed instruments. It was recorded in outdoor locations in Wales and Poland, and in a London studio. My intention was also to create instruments that can be used for collaborative performance making. They are part of DIY instrument making but also have an ‘openness’ of speculative, critical design in the way that they are open to different interpretations.
